Evolution of Goddess

Today's writing prompt is: What book or article have you read recently that impacted you?

Let me tell you about one of my favorite self-empowerment books:

Evolution of Goddess, by Emma Mildon

When I first started this book, I found myself thinking, "This is a lot of fancy granola language," but as I kept reading I thought, "I LIKE this fancy granola language". The reviews on Goodreads are pretty mixed about the tone of the book, but to me, the way Emma writes makes you feel like you are sitting in a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, just the two of you, high on life and chai tea. By the time you leave, you aren't sure if you just had a conversation with a woman or some sort of alien priestess, but either way, you walk with a bounce of inspiration in your step.

The book has two main parts: Your Evolution and Goddess Archetypes. The first is a history of The Goddess- how were women in history worshiped? Why were they worshiped? Who were they? This subject is married with a new Goddess manifesto- who are we, modern-day Goddesses? How do we connect with our past? What does our future look like?

Then there is a short quiz that helps you determine which Goddess archetypes (moon, water, earth, air, and sun) you currently embody the most. Quizzes can feel a bit gimmicky at times, but this one is self-explorative and insightful in a way that I thoroughly enjoyed. I can see myself returning to the quiz through out my life as I change over time. The rest of the book helps you to explore those archetypes in a deep, personal way through history, self expression, rituals, zodiac, seasonal changes, and more. My personal favorite part has been learning how I respond to change, and how I can adjust to respond in healthier ways.

I am not going to go into detail about each of the archetypes, because that's what the book is for, but I will tell you that after reading about water and moon, I feel connected to myself in a way that is empowering, grounding, and exciting.
